Is it right that the picturesque landscape of Fahybeg, Lackareagh Mountain and East Clare is allowed to be destroyed for the financial gain of a dozen land owners, some not even from the area, led by a RWE, Europes Biggest Polluter, Click Here who will trample on our community and sell the Windfarm to foreign investors at the first sign of a profit?
Fahybeg on the slopes of Lackareagh Mountain looks from a height of 360m down on Lough Derg on the River Shannon, a Special Protection Area as designated by the Irish National Parks & Wildlife Service.
The environmental impact of such a massive invasive project will cause irreparable damage.
At 180 metres tall, these turbines will be approx. 20 metres taller than any other turbine ever built onshore in Ireland.
But the size is irrelevant, Fahybeg is not a designated area as set out by the Clare County Council Clare Wind Energy Strategy.
Its close proximity will have major impacts on the communities of Kilbane, Bridgetown, O'Briensbridge and Killaloe as well as the surrounding areas up to 20km away, the negative impacts of windfarms on health, wildlife, environment, tourism and property values are well documented.
There is no positive impact, the inefficiency of Onshore wind vs Offshore is massive and well documented hence why the ESB are heavily investing in the Offshore Windfarm at Moneypoint.
Moneypoint will produce up to 1500 Megawatts vs 24 to 48 Megawatts at Fahybeg, it is nonsensical to destroy East Clare communities for less than 3% of the output of Moneypoint.
We are looking for support to stop the erection of these industrial monstrosities at Fahybeg and save our countryside from profit hungry developers.
